This has been bugging me for so long, and google has not been able to help in the slightest. I live in Cambridge, UK, and see many old cottages and historical buildings with these on their walls (often on the facade), in groups of 4/5.
What are they? Do they serve a purpose or are they simply decorative? What’s their story?
